Diversity is an impending crisis that more companies needs to focus on.
67% of candidates want to join a diverse team
Are you making any hires shortly? If so, itโs worthwhile to think about how you can showcase your commitment to diversity to your candidates. According to research from Glassdoor, 67% per cent of job seekers said that a diverse workforce is an important factor for them when considering companies and job offers.
By the year 2025, 75% of the global workforce will be made up of millennialsโโโwhich means this group will occupy the majority of leadership roles over the coming decade. They will be responsible for making important decisions that affect workplace cultures and peopleโs lives. This group has a unique perspective on diversity. While older generations tend to view diversity through the lenses of race, demographics, equality and representation, millennials see diversity as a melding of varying experiences, different backgrounds and individual perspectives. They view the ideal workplace as a supportive environment that gives space to varying perspectives on a given issue.
35% of diverse companies outperform homogeneous ones
When it comes to financial performance above the national industry median, diversity is a competitive advantage. Research from McKinsey shows that most ethnically diverse companies are 35% more likely to outperform the least ethnically diverse companies. In an excerpt from their Diversity Matters report, they write, โMore diverse companies, we believe, are better able to win top talent and improve their customer orientation, employee satisfaction, and decision making, and all that leads to a virtuous cycle of increasing returns.โ
From the above stats, it would seem to be a given that companies would aim to focus their channels on having a more diverse staff.
